HARROGATE, TN – After falling behind by as many as 20 points in the first half of play Monday night, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team whittled away at the Montevallo lead and cut the deficit to only two with less than two minutes to go in the game before falling 85-76. (Box score)

Without question the Falcons controlled the first half tempo but were shocked by the inside play of Railsplitter senior Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) and the guard play of Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) and Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) in the second half.  Fox ended the night with 22 points, while Burnes chipped in another 15 points and nine assists.  Akridge scored 13 points before falling to the #6 ranked Falcons to move to 4-5 in GSC Eastern Division play.

Down the stretch, Montevallo proved to have too many weapons as guard Greg Brown finished with 21 points, James Hall had 20 points and 11 rebounds and forward Marcus Kennedy scored 14.  Center Darron Robinson also finished the night in double figures by adding 11 points while point guard Jamil Jerman recorded another 10.

Free throw shooting was one of the major contributing factors in the loss for the Railsplitters Monday evening as LMU hit only 13 of 26 from the free throw line for 50%, while Montevallo knocked down 72% of their opportunities.

The Railsplitters now prepare for two consecutive weeks of road games beginning with next Saturday’s date with West Florida, next Monday night’s game with Valdosta State and then a two-game road swing through the state of Alabama that includes outings against North Alabama and the University of Alabama-Huntsville.  The Railsplitters will end the regular season February 25 when they play host to the University of West Georgia in the Turner Arena.
