LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 19, 2006 LMU Men Lose By One in Overtime FLORENCE, AL – Both LMU and North Alabama came out like shots out of a cannon in Sunday afternoon’s final regular season meeting in Gulf South Conference men’s basketball, UNA emerging the 107-106 winner in overtime. (Box score) The Railsplitters had a couple of opportunities in the final seconds of regulation to close the door on the Lions but didn’t get the breaks. UNA on the other hand couldn’t seal the deal with LMU in overtime, allowing the Railsplitters to get off a deep corner shot with one second on the clock that would have won the game if junior Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) had hit it. In any case, the Railsplitter lost for the second time this season to North Alabama and most likely saw any hope of making the Gulf South Conference Tournament in March go out the window. Martin carried the Railsplitters in the second half, scoring 26 of his 30 points in the final 20 minutes of play. Teammate Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) dropped 15 points on UNA in the first half and finished with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) and Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) each finished with 18. Now 7-18 overall and 4-8 in league play, the Railsplitters will be playing for pride only in their final two games of the season. On Monday night the Railsplitters travel to Huntsville, Alabama to take on nationally ranked Alabama-Huntsville before returning home next Saturday night to play host to Ed Murphy and the Braves of West Georgia on senior night in the Tex Turner Arena.-LMU- For additional
