LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 11, 2006 Argonauts Avenge Early Season Loss to Railsplitters PENSACOLA, FL – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team fell to 7-16 and 4-6 in the Gulf South Conference with an 88-70 loss at the hands of the University of West Florida on Saturday afternoon in Pensacola, Florida. (Box score) The Railsplitters fell behind early and went to the locker room trailing by 17 points. In spite of solid free throw shooting by LMU in the second half, West Florida’s offensive attack proved to be too much as the Argos hit 56.5% of their shots from the floor and 57.1% of their shots behind the arc to pick up their second GSC win of the year. Railsplitter point guard Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) led the LMU offense with 16 points and four assists. Also in double figures were seniors Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) and Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) who each scored 12. The Railsplitters now make the trek over to Valdosta, Georgia for Monday night’s meeting with the Blazers of Valdosta State University. The Lincoln Memorial men need to come away with a victory on Monday evening if they expect to keep their GSC Tournament hopes alive. The top four teams from the Gulf South Conference Eastern and Western Divisions will earn a spot in next month’s tournament in Tupelo, Mississippi.-LMU- For additional
