LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release December 30, 2005 LMU Men Split at Holiday Inn Classic ASHLAND, OH – Playing in their first two games since returning from the Christmas break, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team picked up a win and a loss this week while playing in Ashland University’s Holiday Inn Classic last Wednesday and Thursday. With the beginning of the second portion of the Railsplitters' schedule, several new faces also arrived to help the LMU cause. Kai Wells, 5’10” junior college transfer from Chicago State and Kelvin Burns, also a 5’10 junior college transfer from the state of Florida both became eligible to compete the remainder of the season for the Railsplitters. Both are point guards and give LMU much needed depth at the guard position. Even with the new help, it was the play of junior inside post man Johnny Martin that led the Railsplitters offensively in both outings of the tournament. Martin scored 16 points and grabbed three boards in the Railsplitters' 83-80 win over Slippery Rock University in the first round of the tournament. Then, Martin recorded and impressive 32 point, nine rebound effort in an 86-75 loss to host Ashland University in the Championship game on Thursday evening. Following several days of practice, the Railsplitters will officially tip-off the New Year on January 3 when they return to their home floor in the Tex Turner Arena to play host to North Greenville College. With no women’s game that night, the LMU men will be flying solo and will get underway against NGC at 7:00 p.m.-LMU- For additional
