LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 9, 2006 Railsplitters Cruise Past Argonauts HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team remained among the ranks of the unbeaten Monday evening with a 79-59 win over the University of West Florida to advance to 2-0 in Gulf South Conference Eastern Division play. (Box score) The Railsplitters' inside game was again dominating, scoring 50 of the 79 points in the paint and pulling 50 rebounds to the Argonauts 29. As happened Saturday night, a number of LMU players scored double figures led by senior Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) who came off the bench to finish the night with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Railsplitters Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) and Kelvin Burns (Miami, FL) also came off the bench and each added 13 points, while teammate Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) poured in another 10. The win gives the LMU men their best conference start in league play since the 1998-99 season when they defeated the University of West Alabama and the University of Montevallo to kick off the first weekend of league play. The Railsplitters went on to win their first seven conference games that season before West Georgia ended the streak in Carrollton. Next weekend the Railsplitters will get their first conference road test when they travel to Livingston, Alabama to play the University of West Alabama on Saturday, and then make the short trip over to Montevallo, Alabama on Monday to take on #2 nationally ranked University of Montevallo in the second game of the road swing. Both games will be carried on the Lincoln Memorial University Basketball Network. -LMU- For additional
