Railsplitters End Losing Steak with Non-Conference Win

TIGERVILLE, SC – The Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters ended a four-game losing skid with Monday night’s 79-71 win over the Crusaders of North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina. (Box score)

After starting the Gulf South Conference schedule in early January with a 3-0 mark, the Railsplitters lost consecutive games to the #1 nationally ranked Montevallo, #13 nationally ranked Alabama-Huntsville, unranked North Alabama and most recently to GSC rival West Georgia before Monday night’s win.

The win over the Crusaders was a confidence boost heading into this weekend’s conference play against West Alabama and Montevallo at home.  LMU shot 55.4% from the field Monday night and 81.3% from the free throw line.  Senior Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) paced the Railsplitters with 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting from the floor, while teammates Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) and Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) each chipped in 14 and junior forward Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) finished with 12.  Incidentally, Akridge also led LMU on the glass with 11 boards and junior point guard Kai Wells (Memphis, TN) handed out six assists.

This weekend the Railsplitters will have to turn their effort up a notch when they play host to the University of West Alabama on Saturday and the University of Montevallo on Sunday.  West Alabama will come into the Tex Turner Arena still riding high after last Saturday’s GSC win over #1 nationally ranked Montevallo, while the Falcons will be looking to take out their frustration on this week’s GSC opponents.  Both games are set to get underway at 8:00 p.m. on the LMU campus.
