Crusaders Silence Railsplitters

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team suffered possibly its most gut-wrenching loss of the season Tuesday evening when North Greenville College came into the Turner Arena at 1-8 and handed the Railsplitters a 76-75 loss. (Box score)

LMU led throughout most of the contest but allowed the Crusaders to score an inbound bucket with 11 seconds remaining for the one point go-ahead margin.  Following the NGC basket, the Railsplitters called time out, put together a play and managed to get a shot off.  The attempt fell short however and the LMU men saw their record fall to 2-10 overall.

Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) led LMU in scoring with 17 points, while Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, GA) carried the Railsplitters on the glass pulling 13 boards and scoring 13 points.  Also in double figures for LMU was Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) with 15, and junior newcomer Kai Wells (Memphis, TN) with 12.

North Greenville was paced by P.J. Schumacher with 17 points, while Andrew Nipper finished the night with 14 and Jordan Richmond and Daniel Morbitzer each added 10.  The Crusaders Amonzo Gantt pulled 10 boards to lead North Greenville on the glass.

This weekend the Railsplitters had better have their laces tied tight when they play host to the Blazers of Valdosta State University for the opening game of the Gulf South Conference schedule.  LMU and VSU tip it up at 8:00 p.m. in the night cap, with the Lady Railsplitters and the VSU women getting the evening started at 6:00 o’clock.
