LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 21, 2006 LMU Men Can’t Stop UNA’s Offensive Attack HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team dropped its second Gulf South Conference game of the year Saturday night when the University of North Alabama Lions came into the Tex Turner Arena and dropped 94 points on the Railsplitters in a 94-84 battle of two of the GSC’s top teams. (Box score) Despite not being able to stop the North Alabama attack most of the evening, the Railsplitters managed to cut the UNA lead to one with only 2:51 remaining. In foul trouble and forced to play soft in the final minutes, LMU allowed the Lions to extend the lead to as many as 11 before falling by the eventual 10 point margin. Scoring didn’t seem to be a problem for the Railsplitters as five players made their way into double figures. Senior Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) led the way with a season-high 20 points, while Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) finished the night with 18. Junior guard Kai Wells (Memphis, TN) chipped in another 14 points, while teammate Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) knocked down 12 and forward Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) 10. The loss drops the Railsplitters to 3-2 in league play heading into Monday night’s match-up with the #13 nationally ranked Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The Chargers come into Monday night’s game on the heels of a Saturday night road win over the University of West Georgia and boasting a 15-2 overall record and a 4-1 conference mark. Tip-off for the Railsplitters' meeting with UAH is set for 8:00 p.m. in the Turner Arena. -LMU- For additional
