The Railsplitter Transformation Continues

LIVINGSTON, AL – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball team continued to make believers of Gulf South Conference opponents Saturday evening with an 88-79 road victory over the Tigers of the University of West Alabama. (Box score)

Playing in front of one of the largest opposing crowds this season, the Railsplitters fell behind by 10 points in the first half but pulled things together to take a 40-34 lead into the locker room at the intermission.  After a brief struggle against the Tigers to open the second half, the LMU men pulled out to a 16 point lead and coasted to the nine point win to remain unbeaten in GSC Eastern Division play heading into Monday night’s match-up with the #1 nationally ranked Falcons of the University of Montevallo.

LMU senior Kenneth Fox (Lexington, KY) and junior Kelvin Burnes (Miami, FL) paced the Railsplitters with 23 points each.  Fox also pulled 10 boards, hit eight of nine shots from the field and knocked down seven of eight free throws.  Burnes, playing in only his sixth game for the Railsplitters this season, hit four of six shots from the floor and was a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line and handed out seven assists.

Other players scoring double figures for LMU were forward Johnny Martin (Detroit, MI) who scored 12, Stevie Akridge (Grand Rapids, MI) with 11 and Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, GA) who scored 10.
