Signs With Kansas City Wizards
For the first time in the
history of the Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer program, one of its
alumni has signed a contract to play for a Major League Soccer organization.

Late Touches On The Soccer
Roster
In previous seasons, Head Soccer Coach
Helio D'Anna
followed a trend of adding important players to his roster in the late stages of
the recruiting season. Last year, Aaron
McKenna was a prime example of that fact. The year before,
Leandro Pereira came in late.
Frederico Moojen was another example
of the past. This year, three players have been added to the roster since
recruiting has been complete, Victor Plaza
(Jundiai, Brazil), David Lambach
(Morristown, TN), and Tom Clark
(Kent, England) will carry the tradition of the late signees.

men’s soccer forward Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil) has been named
Male Athlete of the Year by head coaches throughout the University’s athletics
program.

Two Keepers Sign with LMU
In 2007 the Railsplitters lost
a very decorated goalkeeper in Brent Cole
(Knoxville, TN. In to 2008, in addition to returning keeper
Patrick Riesenberg, two more players
will try to fill the void at keeper that was created with the loss of Cole.

Helio D'Anna has
the task of reloading a team that won almost everything it could have won in
2007. The Railsplitters had a banner year that culminated in playing for the
NCAA Division II National Championship at the end of last year. Judging by the
first two signees, it seems as though the team is on its way to picking up right
where they left off in 2007.

Lincoln Memorial University Head Soccer Coach Helio D’Anna will have an
exciting but busy summer ahead. Recently, the two-time NCAA Regional Coach of
the Year announced that he will coach a summer league men’s team in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana.

For the
second consecutive year, both the Lincoln Memorial University men's and
women's soccer teams have received the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

LMU Falls Short Of NCAA Title With 1-0 Loss To Franklin Pierce
With several near misses by both teams, the match appeared to be headed for
overtime, since that was the theme so far in the 2007 Division II National
Soccer Championships, but the nations’ second leading scorer David Clifton
slipped a shot over the head of LMU goalkeeper Brent Cole to give the
Ravens of Franklin Pierce the National Championship.

Advances To National Championship Match
Lincoln Memorial University senior Guilherme Alves used a cross from
fellow senior Marcelo Galafassi in the 109th minute to score what is
probably the biggest goal in program history as the Railsplitters defeated
#18 Montevallo 1-0 in double overtime in the NCAA Division II semifinals on
Friday.

Again As Railsplitters Advance To NCAA Men's Soccer Semifinals
For the second straight year, Lincoln Memorial University will play in the
NCAA Division II men's soccer national semifinals. For the second straight
year, they defeated Northern Kentucky University on the road. And for the
second straight year, it was by a 2-1 score.

Region Title, Railsplitters Beat C-N 2-1 To Advance To Elite Eight
For a second straight season, Lincoln Memorial has won the NCAA Division II
Appalachian Region Men's Soccer Championship with Sunday's 2-1 win over
Carson-Newman. The region tournament was held at the Niswonger Sports Complex
and Pioneer Field on the campus of Tusculum College.

Advance To NCAA Appalachian Region Final
Nelson Pizarro recorded a goal and an assist as top-seeded Lincoln Memorial
defeated No. 4 seed Wingate 2-1 Friday in the opening match of the 2007 NCAA
Division II Appalachian Region Men’s Soccer Tournament. The tournament is being
held at Pioneer Field on the campus of Tusculum College.

2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, the #1 seed Lincoln
Memorial University men’s soccer team took its first step toward a conference

LMU Soccer Teams Capture 2007 SAC Regular Season Titles & Will Host First Rounds
Of Conference Tournament
The
Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s soccer teams both received good
news over the weekend. Although the men’s team was tied by Mars Hill (1-1) and
lost to Wingate over the weekend (3-0), the Railsplitters still managed to
clinch the league regular season title with a record of 5-1-1.

The Wingate University men’s soccer team blanked Lincoln Memorial University 3-0
in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday night at Carlisle Field and the
Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex. Wet field conditions at the WU Soccer Complex
necessitated the venue change.

Conference Soccer Tournaments.

#4 LMU & Mars Hill Play to 1-1 Tie
Tuesday night’s conference match with Mars Hill College was somewhat
bitter-sweet in terms of the 2007 season. Lincoln Memorial entered the match at
5-0 in conference play and while the tie with the Lions is the Railsplitters'
first blemish, the draw still earns the Railsplitters the title of Regular
Season South Atlantic Conference Champions with one regular season match
remaining. The championship is the LMU men’s soccer programs first regular
season conference title since they were members of the Gulf South Conference in
2005.

Alderson-Broaddus
On Saturday afternoon, playing
in their final regular season home match of the year, the Lincoln Memorial
University men’s soccer team took another step in defense of their 2006 NCAA
Appalachian Region crown. The Railsplitters added another win to this year’s
unblemished region record of 9-0, bringing their overall season mark to 13-2 on
the year.

After playing through a
defensive struggle the first 45 minutes of the match, the Lincoln Memorial
University men’s soccer team bombarded Pfeiffer with an offensive attack that

come away with a 2-0 win over the Falcons on Saturday.

Rolls Over Undermanned Salem International
The Tigers of Salem International University were no match for the
powerful Railsplitter soccer team Friday afternoon, as Lincoln Memorial
came away with an 11-0 rout. SIU entered the match with the
Railsplitters playing a man down, as they were able to field only 10
players due to a coaching change that took place two weeks ago.

Lewis University
For the first time since October 17, 2004, when they lost to Christian Brothers
University, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team suffered a loss on
the home turf. On Sunday afternoon the Flyers of Lewis University came to the
Les Gibbs Field and handed the fifth-ranked Railsplitters a 3-2 loss to drop LMU
to 1-1 on the year.

Despite losing three starters from last season’s Appalachian Region
title team, the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitter men’s soccer

Gunning For The Champs
The
Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team began practice Monday
morning in preparation to defend its 2006 Appalachian Region title. The Railsplitters lost only three starters from last year’s
squad that finished the season with a 15-2-3 record and a trip to the NCAA Final Four. On hand for the first day of preseason workouts were
ball touch skills, and some early season conditioning.
