Entering his
fifth year of collegiate coaching, Travis Muncy is
ready for the big win, the South AtlanticConference Tournament. Muncy inherited the
men’s golf team in the summer of 2003 and the women’s team in the summer of
2004.
Muncy feels that both teams are maturing and gaining an edge to compete against
the conference’s best.
This is what LMU needs to gain respect in the Gulf South Conference,” says Muncy.
“We are ready for the next level of play.
After becoming head coach of the men’s team, Coach Muncy has helped guide the
program to victory several times and is trying to help them reach an even higher
level as student athletes and as golfers.
“You are first a student, and then a golfer,” states Muncy.
The women’s team is becoming much stronger as they grow with experience. At the
rate of their improvement and competitive drive, a win is in their future.
A native of Harrogate, Muncy got his first tast of collegiate golf at Edison
College. While there he payed golf and was the team captain for two seasons.
Shortly after school, Muncy turned pro. He played in several professional golf
tournaments o n the mini tours before returning to nearby Tazewell, Tennessee,
to take over the operation of Woodlake Golf Club.
Muncy’s other accomplishments include an Associate of Applied Science from
Walters State Community College in 1996
and a Bachelor of Business Administration from LMU in 1998.
Currently Muncy holds a Class A-1 Professional status and still serves as head
profesional at Woodlake Golf Club. As head professional, he has received many
awards for his services including Head Professional of the Year and the Horton
Smith Award in 2002.
“I am proud to be the head golf coach for both teams at Lincoln Memorial
University,” says Muncy. “My goal is to restore pride in the programs and to
again bring LMU’s golf teams the national respect they both have had in the
past.”
