JFWA Strings Group Attends Kentucky State Garden Convention

The Mountain Laurel District, of which Middlesboro and Cumberland
Park Garden Club are members, hosted The Garden Club of Kentucky
Inc., 78th Annual Meeting, held recently at Cumberland Falls State
Resort Park. Serving as chairperson for the meeting was Gypsie Bellar
from the Cumberland Park Garden Club.

The theme for this year’s meeting was “Gardening, We Dig It !”.
The four day meeting began with registration and committee meetings
on Monday afternoon, and concluded on Thursday with the Convention
Awards Breakfast.

Speakers and special guests included Mrs. Lucille Carloftis from the Rockcastle Trading Post, who was accompanied by Jon Carloftis, a landscape designer .

Redbud seedlings were also made available to those attending the meeting by the Bell County and Southeast Kentucky Tourism Commissions. Other events and workshops included a Flower Show Judges Council Exhibit, Nature at Cumberland Falls Walkabout, Flower Show Judges’ Council meeting, Landscape Design Consultants meeting, “Wild Birds Unlimited” workshop, Gardening Consultants Council meeting, Basic Design workshop presented by Dianne Caines and Sue Kirkman, Proven Winners workshop, Generations Gardening Together Program, The Mountain Laurel District, also hosted a reception honoring Martha Mengel, President of The Garden Club of Kentucky Inc., and Renee Blaschke, President Elect of The National Garden Club Inc. A highlight of the meeting was the convention Bbanquet and installation of officers for 2009-2011. The speaker at the banquet was Renee Blaschke.
