The Social Studies program at Lincoln Memorial University provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of society and culture, both in the United States and abroad.

Special Features

The program offers a choice of two concentrations. The Global Issues track provides an opportunity to apply social science principles to a variety of problems affecting countries around the globe. The Comprehensive Social Studies track appeals to students preparing for teaching careers in secondary education. The program exceeds minimum content standards for the “No Child Left Behind” legislation. Graduates are content qualified to teach history, geography, government or economics at the middle and high school levels in Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. For specific teacher education requirements, the student should consult the Education Department.

Even though this is a fairly new major, students have completed internships at public schools throughout the region.
