What is the purpose of human life? What is the best way to live? Is there a God? For the last 2,500 years, thinkers in the West have wrestled with these questions. Some of their answers entail belief in a deity. Some rely upon the power of human reason. LMU's Philosophy and Religion program will give you the opportunity to explore the full range of answers that have been offered.

Degree Offered

Bachelor of Arts

Special Features

Faculty in the Religion and Philosophy department are experienced scholars whose work has appeared in The Journal of Communication and Religion, Vital Speeches of the Day, and The Journal of Popular Culture.

Courses in philosophy cover a variety of areas, ranging from contemporary issues such as medical ethics to eternal questions about the meaning of life.

Religion courses include the history of religion, a comparative study of the major religions of the world, and a survey of the major sacred writings of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

You'll gain a better understanding of major world religions by visiting several different worship services in the Knoxville area.
