LMU Concert Band and the Gaudete Brass Quintet will be performing
a spring concert at Lincoln Memorial University in Duke
Hall on April 17, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.
LMU Percussion Ensemble has been selected to perform at the Tennessee Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference on April 28
Ensemble Descriptions
The music program at LMU offers several different
performing opportunities for interested and qualified
students.
Large-scale ensembles include:
•Concert Band
•Concert Choir,
Pep-Band
•Tri-State Community
Chorus
•Rock Ensemble
These ensembles perform several concerts throughout the
year and cover a wide variety of musical styles and
genres. Made up of the finest musicians from both
LMU and the surrounding community, participation, with
the exception of the Tri-State Community Chorus, is by
audition.
LMU also offers a variety of chamber ensembles.
These include:
•Jazz Ensemble
•Jazz Vocal Ensemble
•Chamber Singers
•Brass and Woodwind
Quintets
These groups offer a more intimate alternative for
students seeking to further enhance their musical
growth. Participation is also by audition.
Music Program Description
The study of music at LMU is
unique. Our dedicated faculty provide personalized
attention so that you will acquire the best possible
academic and professional career preparation.
Students have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts
in Music degree or a minor in music. We offer a
variety of highly regarded performing ensembles and
provide course offerings including private applied
lessons, theory, listening, film music and music
history.
LMU offers two programs in music, a B.A. in music performance, and both vocal and instrumental music education (beginning Fall 2008)

Faculty
Douglas Mead is currently Assistant Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Humanities and Fine Arts at Lincoln Memorial University. Dr. Mead has previously held principal oboe positions with the Miami Symphony, the Miami Bach Society, the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra,
and has served as guest principal oboe with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. He has served on the faculty at Barry University (FL) and the New World School of the Arts. Dr. Mead conducts the concert band, jazz and percussion ensembles at LMU, as well as serving as an adjudicator and guest clinician throughout East Tennessee. Dr. Mead holds the B.M. from the University of Miami (FL), the M.M. from Yale University and the D.M.A. from the University of Miami. Former teachers include Robert Mayer, John Dee, Robert Weiner, William Baker, Ronald Roseman and Richard Killmer.
Auditions
Auditions are held at various
times during the spring semester. Times and dates
will be posted on the University website.
Scholarship Information
Scholarships are available for
qualified students for both Concert Choir and Concert
Band. These are entirely merit based scholarships
and will be appropriated based on the audition results. |
