Combining technology, science, and the fine arts, LMU's Communication Arts program will give you the knowledge and the sophisticated hardware you need to unlock your creative potential and express your ideas. Through courses that provide a broad educational background, you'll study all aspects of basic communication arts. But you'll also have the flexibility to pursue a specialized course of study that fits your area of interest.

Special Features

You can focus on and strengthen your particular interests through elective courses that allow you to specialize in:
  • Theatre and Performance Studies
  • Business Communication/Public Relations/Advertising
  • Media Production
Program courses cover every aspect of communication--from Phonetics and Diction to Communication Law and Ethics. You may also work with other programs to study marketing and advertising.

Special-topics classes allow you to explore a variety of subjects and develop particular skills. Past courses have included:

  • Makeup and Special Makeup Effects
  • Announcing for the Camera
LMU's Sigmon Communications Center houses a radio station and a television studio that produces nightly news broadcasts--all run by students.

You'll get hands-on experience through our practicum programs. You can work on theatre productions at the LMU Hayrick Playhouse, or as part of the production staff of LMU's student newspaper, or in public relations activities.

Our students have interned with mid-market TV stations, area radio stations, and the David Letterman Show.

A communication arts degree from LMU prepares you for a career in television, post-production, public relations, advertising and marketing, computer graphics and animation, promotional CD production--you name it.

Alumni Success

LMU graduates can be found in all areas of television. They are working as television news anchors and directors. They're handling graphics and promotions for major companies such as Ruby Tuesdays. They're also editing shows for Scripps Networks television. But you'll also find our alumni writing for newspapers and working in radio.
