Homefront Tennessee:
Children and the Civil War
What was it like to have lived during the Civil War? In July 2007, 18 kids got to find out in the Homefront Tennessee: Children and the Civil War Summer Camp, courtesy of Lincoln Letters for Kids, the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, the city of Harrogate and the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. During the one week program, they learned about each year of the Civil War from the newspaper Soldier’s Yearly, learned how to play townball, made Civil War medicine, competed in trivia competitions, wrote letters with quill and ink, performed a Civil War play and did lots of other interesting activities. Now, kids, parents and teachers across the country are invited to read the lesson, do the activities, complete the trivia and learn about the Civil War. Each activity and lesson is free to print, and we hope you enjoy learning about the War Between the States!
