The following is a general timeline that outlines the residency application process. Please access the links below for specific timelines, ERAS and Match registration, information on residency programs, and information on residency supporting documents.

| October-March: | Begin working on your Curriculum Vitae (CV) |
| February-June: | Research residency programs and request information and/or application materials (DCOM Sponsored Residency Programs A-OPTIC, AOA Opportunities, and AMA’s FREIDA). Write your Personal Statement(s) |
| Mid-Late June: | Begin requesting Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) if you have not already done so AOA Intern/Resident Registration Program opens (NMS) |
| July 1: | ERAS tokens distributed to applicants by the Extramural Education Coordinator MyERAS Web site opens to osteopathic applicants to begin working on their applications. Osteopathic applicants may begin selecting and applying to osteopathic training programs only. ERAS is a separate and distinct service from the Match. ERAS is used to apply for programs, while the Match determines the final placements into programs. More information and links for both below. |
| July 15: | Osteopathic training programs can begin contacting the ERAS PostOffice to download application files. |
| October 15: | MSPE’s are Released at 12:01 a.m. to AOA-Accredited Programs |
| November 1: | MSPEs are Released at 12:01 a.m. to ACGME-Accredited Programs Recommended date by which students should register for the AOA Match. |
| Late November: | Instructions for submitting rank order lists and obtaining match results are provided to NMS registered students and programs NRMP Applicant Registration Deadline |
| Mid-January: | NMS Final submission of student and program rank order NRMP Rank order list entry begins |
| February: | NMS Osteopathic Match results released DO Scramble NRMP Late Registration Deadline |
| Mid-March: | NRMP Match Results released |
