LMU’s Hawes Named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference & SAC Freshman Of The Year

HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University freshman Charlie Hawes (Surrey, England) has become the first Railsplitter golfer to be named to an All-South Atlantic Conference Team.  The announcement came earlier this week from the conference office in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

In only his first year of collegiate golf with Lincoln Memorial University, Hawes has had five top-5 finishes and has helped the Railsplitters capture a first place trophy on two different occasions, in the Thorobred Golf Invitational in Frankfort, Kentucky and the LMU Invitational held at Woodlake Golf Course in Tazewell, Tennessee.

In addition to being named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, Hawes also received SAC Freshman of the Year honors, narrowly edging out candidates from two other SAC schools.

This week, Hawes and the Railsplitters competed in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament held in Hickory, North Carolina and finished 8th overall with a team scored of 625.  Lincoln Memorial finished behind Presbyterian (1st place-593), Tusculum (2nd place-604), Carson-Newman (tied for 3rd-609), Lenoir-Rhyne (tied for 3rd-609), Newberry (5th-613), Wingate (6th-616) and Catawba 7th-620).  Finishing behind Lincoln Memorial was Mars Hill College with a team score of 633 in ninth place.

Hawes is expected to be one of four returning freshman next season on what will still be a very young Railsplitter golf team.  The Railsplitters lose only senior Aaron Hammons to graduation from the 2006-07 year.
