Railsplitters Finish Third in LMU Fall Invitational
TAZEWELL, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University
men’s golf team finished third in the LMU Fall Invitational Golf Tournament
held Monday and Tuesday at Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tennessee.
The tournament was discontinued several years ago
however; second-year LMU Head Golf Coach Travis Muncy revived the tournament
this year and seemed pleased with the turnout. “I think despite the cold,
wet weather, that all the teams had a good time and we hope to do this again
next year,” Muncy stated.
The Railsplitters posted a two-day team score of 601 to
finish behind GSC opponents North Alabama (595 – 1st place) and
West Georgia (599 – 2nd place). Teams finishing behind the
Railsplitters were Walters State Community College – Team A (613 – 4th
place), Walters State Community College – Team B (649 – 5th
place), Hiwassee College (719 – 6th place) and Kentucky State
University (765 – 6th place).
Individually Lincoln Memorial was led by junior
Aaron Hammons (Saline, MI). Hammons turned in scores of 71 and 73 for a
two-day total 144 to finish second overall after winning a scorecard playoff
against Walters State Community College’s Dustin Davis.
LMU junior Craig Reasor (Big Stone Gap, VA) and
freshman Tyler Allen (O’Fallen, IL) also finished among the top-10
participants. Reasor shot rounds of 75 and 75 for a total 150, six strokes
over par and nine strokes off the lead for 8th place, while Allen
recorded scores of 79 and 74 for a 153 to tie for 10th place,
twelve strokes back.
Jeremy Gordon (Middlesboro, KY) and Justin
Edwards (Kingston, TN) finished 20th and 21st
respectively for the Railsplitters. Gordon posted rounds of 78 and 83 for a
total 161, while Edwards turned in an 87 on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday for a
total 163.
Railsplitter junior Brad Davis (New Tazewell, TN)
found that Tuesday’s cold and rainy conditions were somewhat frustrating.
After shooting an 80 on day-one of the tournament, Davis turned in an 89 on
the final round to finish with a 169 in 26th place overall.
Lincoln Memorial University freshman Jacob
Collingsworth (New Tazewell, TN) finished the two-day tournament tied
for 27th place. Collingsworth logged rounds of 87 each day for a
total 174 to finish 33 strokes off the lead.
This week’s LMU Invitational brings to a close the fall
season for the Railsplitters. LMU will resume play in the spring when the
team will be in search of its first ever GSC Championship.
