OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release May 25, 2007 LMU Men’s Tennis Signs Bates HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s tennis program signed its first recruit for the 2007-08 season recently. Andrew Bates, a 5’6” incoming freshman from Larry A. Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky decided to play his collegiate tennis career with the Railsplitters. “Andrew is a dynamic tennis player,” says high school coach and mother Amy Bates. “Andrew has played on a high school team since the 5th grade. This year he took on the leadership role with ease.” Bates will have some big shoes to fill when he takes the court for the Railsplitters, as he will help to replace former All-Gulf South Conference standout Lukas Burkon who was lost following the 2007 spring season to graduation. This fall the LMU tennis teams will be entering their first year of eligibility to compete for the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Bates will pursue a degree in pre-pharmacy while attending Lincoln Memorial University. He is the son of Alan and Amy Bates of Walton, Kentucky and will join his new teammates when fall semester classes get underway in late August.-LMU- For additional
