Lewallen To Step Down As LMU Tennis Coach

HARROGATE, TN – Less than a month into the 2008 spring tennis schedule, Lincoln Memorial University Head Coach Lisa-Marie Lewallen officially announced Thursday morning that she would step down upon completion of this year’s schedule.

A native of Scott County Tennessee, Lewallen was a four-year collegiate tennis standout at LMU and played her career under former LMU Head Coach Jack Bondurant.  During her time as a player, she amassed a 45-25 singles record over for a .643 winning percentage, while turning in a 56-20 career doubles mark, a winning percentage of .737.  Lewallen was hired after earning her master’s degree from Lincoln Memorial University two years ago to replace outgoing coach Jack Bondurant.

In her first season at the helm of the Lincoln Memorial University’s tennis program, Lewallen’s 2007 women’s team finished the year with an 11-9 mark while the Railsplitters endured a disappointing 0-18 campaign that year.  “My experience at Lincoln Memorial University has been very rewarding both as a student-athlete and as a coach,” said Lewallen.  “I appreciate the opportunity to work for such a fine institution and I wish the University and the athletics department continued success.  On behalf of Lincoln Memorial University and especially the LMU athletic family, I would like to thank Coach Lewallen for her service and hard work,” said LMU Athletics Director Roger Vannoy.  “She is a class individual and I wish her nothing but the best as she now pursues other interests in her life.

Only a few games into the 2008 schedule Lewallen will remain with the team through the end of the season before pursue new endeavors.  Presently the Lady Railsplitter tennis team is 3-4 on the year with a 2-0 South Atlantic Conference record, while the Railsplitters are 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.  Both teams will travel to North Carolina this weekend to take on Catawba College and Wingate University on Saturday and Sunday.
