Women’s Tennis Team Drops To 0-2 On Fall Schedule 

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University women’s tennis team fell to 0-2 this fall with a 9-0 loss Sunday afternoon at the hands of West Virginia State University on the Annan Courts.

After falling to Brevard College 5-4 in the opening match of the 2007-08 schedule, the Lady Railsplitters were again silenced in their second outing.  LMU’s Kathleen Rollet (Bouge Chambalud, France) and Martina Rezic (Pula, Croatia) lost in #1 doubles play 8-6 while teammates Rachel Redmond (Somerset, KY) and Mandy Mills (Tazewell, TN) were defeated 8-3 by their opponents at the #2 doubles position.  In the #3 doubles play, LMU walk-on Sophie Denlinger (West Milton, OH) and Nicole Combs (Harrogate, TN) also lost 8-3.

West Virginia State dominated the singles play on Sunday as well.  LMU’s #1 singles player Kathleen Rollet lost to WVSU’s Anna Baronayte 2-6, 2-6, while senior Martina Rezic lost to Teddi Russell at the #2 position 3-6, 5-7.  In #3 single play, WVSU’s Erica Blackley disposed of LMU’s Rachel Redmond in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Lady Railsplitter freshman Emily Osborne (Middlesboro, KY) lost 0-6, 3-6 to Emily Bowlin at the #4 spot.  Rounding out singles play, WVSU’s Elen Russell defeated Mandy Mills of LMU 6-0, 6-1 in #5 singles and Megan Stewart defeated Sophie Denlinger 6-3, 6-3 at the #6 position.

The LMU women have only one match remaining on the fall schedule before taking things indoors for off-season conditioning until February.  On October 11, the Lady Railsplitters will travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee to take on conference rival Carson-Newman College.  The match between the Lady Splitters and the Lady Eagles gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
