LMU Sweeps Opponents in Volleyball Tri-match

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter volleyball team improved to 8-3 on the year by defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College (3-0) and Kentucky State University (3-0) on Saturday in a tri-match held in the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium.

The Lady Railsplitters opened the afternoon by knocking off the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan in three games 30-11, 30-24 and 30-14 to improve to 7-3 on the year.

LMU senior Blythe McCulley (Springfield, IL) and freshman Amanda Horencamp (Murfreesboro, TN) led the way offensively, each posting seven kills for the match.  Lady Railsplitter freshman setter Amber Vanderlin (Mesquite, TX) also contributed to the offense by handing out 16 assists.

Defensively, junior libero Jency Basinger (Temecula, CA) was on her game, recording 22 digs, while Horencamp finished with a double-double by logging 11 digs by the end of the match.

In Saturday’s second match, the LMU women handed the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State University their first loss of the 2006 season.  LMU rolled up a 3-0 win with scores of 30-12, 30-26, 30-16 to improve to 8-3 on the year.

Offensively seniors Blythe McCulley, Joy Otto (Barrington, IL) and sophomore Jaclyn Dvorscak (Whiting, IN) each posted eight kills, while sophomore Laura Slone (Dandridge, TN) recorded 24 assists and Amber Vanderlin added another 16.

On the defensive side of the net, junior Karlee Wyrick (Cincinnati, OH) led the way with 15 digs, while Jency Basinger contributed 14 to help the Lady Railsplitter cause.

The LMU women now face back-to-back road games against Carson-Newman College and Virginia Intermont College before playing in the friendly confines of the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium again on September 19, when they host Newberry College.  Tuesday’s match with the Lady Eagles of Carson-Newman will get underway at 6:00 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
