Lady Splitters Cruise Past Virginia Intermont

HARROGATE, TN – Wednesday night’s match with Virginia Intermont College looked effortless for the now 13-6 Lady Railsplitter volleyball team.  LMU won 3-0 with game scores of 30-18, 30-17 and 30-23 to come away with the non-conference victory.

LMU Head Coach Mike Smith had the opportunity to play his entire team and get give his starters a little rest in preparation for this Friday night’s home conference match with the Indians of Catawba College.

Sophomore Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, TN) and freshman Ashley Knight (Palm Harbor, FL) led the Lincoln Memorial offensive attack with help from freshman middle hitter turned setter Lauren Kiwacka (Tipp City, OH).  Horenkamp finished the night with a match-high 12 kills, while Knight had 10 and Kiwacka a total of 37 assists.

On the defensive side of the net, the Lady Railsplitters were just as convincing as four LMU players had double figures in the digs category.  Knight completed the double-double with 13 digs, while Horenkamp and freshman Alicia McIntyre (Muncie, IN) each added 12 and Lauren Kiwacka 11.  LMU middle blocker Alison Hess (Dayton, OH) also added three block assists at the net.

The Lady Railsplitters are now 13-6 overall and 2-1 entering this Friday night’s conference match with Catawba College.  The Indians will come into the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium with a record of 16-3 and a 2-2 conference record in the first meeting of the two South Atlantic Conference schools this season.  Friday’s match gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
