LMU Volleyball Team Blanks Carson-Newman To Move Back Into South Atlantic Conference Top 4

HARROGATE, TN – For the second time this season, the Lincoln Memorial University volleyball team has shutout Carson-Newman College and remains among the top teams in South Atlantic Conference.

On Tuesday evening, the Lady Railsplitters knocked off the Lady Eagles 30-15, 30-27 and 34-32 to improve to 4-4 in league play and move to 15-9 overall.  The win puts the Lady Railsplitters at 2-0 against Carson-Newman as a South Atlantic Conference member and completes a sweep of the Lady Eagles this season in regular season play.

The duo of Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, TN) and Ashley Knight (Palm Harbor, FL) combined for 23 kills Tuesday night, with Horenkamp recording 13 and Knight 10.  LMU setter Lauren Kiwacka (Tipp City, OH) turned in a solid performance with 27 assists on the evening to help the Lady Railsplitter cause.

Defensively, the LMU women were possibly as solid as they have been all season.  The Lady Railsplitters were led by the senior leadership of Amanda Baker (Los Banos, CA) who tallied 16 digs on the evening, while Horenkamp and libero Alicia McIntyre (Muncie, IN) had 15 each and defensive specialist Karlee Wyrick (Cincinnati, OH) who was somewhat under the weather had 12.  Senior Caitlin Hankins (Oklahoma City, OK) and sophomore Alison Hess (Dayton, OH) who was returning to the lineup after a two-match absence combined for six blocks at the net however, it was freshman Ashley Knight who led the category with four.

Now officially into the back half of the league schedule with the win over Carson-Newman, the Lady Railsplitters will step out of conference this weekend when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama for the Montevallo Invitational Tournament.  While LMU won’t face the host team, they will see some familiar opponents in Fort Valley State of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and former Gulf South Conference opponent, West Alabama.  The Lady Railsplitters play their first match on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
