OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 3, 2006 LMU Shuts Out Lander 3-0 HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial’s Lady Railsplitter volleyball team picked up its fifteenth win of the year Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over visiting Lander University of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. (Box score) Lander entered the match with Lincoln Memorial at 16-7 on the year but couldn’t hold off the Lady Railsplitters who have won nine of their last ten matches. The LMU women rolled up wins of 30-28, 30-22 and 30-26 to improve to 15-4 overall. Lady Railsplitter middle hitter Joy Otto (Barrington, IL) had a solid offensive performance with 15 kills, while freshman teammate Alison Hess (Dayton, OH) added 11 and Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, TN) another 10. Floor general Amber Vanderlin (Mesquite, TX) was on her game again offensively, as the freshman dished out 35 assists on the night to help the Lady Splitters hold off the young but talented Bearcats of Lander University. Defense could be the key to Tuesday night’s win for LMU. Horenkamp, Vanderlin, Jency Basinger (Temecula, CA) and Blythe McCulley (Springfield, IL) all recorded double figures in the digs category. Horenkamp had 17 digs, while Vanderlin finished with 16, Basinger had 14 and McCulley recorded 12 to help the LMU cause. Incidentally, McCulley and Hess also totaled four block-assists each for the match. The LMU women now embark on a long road stretch that will carry them through eight matches in fourteen days. The journey starts this Thursday when the Lady Splitters travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to take on Tusculum College.
