LMU Volleyball Adds Three For Fall 2008

HARROGATE, TN – On Tuesday afternoon, Lincoln Memorial University volleyball Head Coach Mike Smith announced the addition of three players for the fall 2008 Lady Railsplitter roster.

“Adding experience and athleticism was a priority with this year’s recruiting class,” said Smith.  “We wanted players that could challenge to make an immediate impact in key positions.  The young ladies we have signed for this fall are a good fit both on our team and here at LMU.”

Krysten Adsuara joins the Lady Railsplitters as a native of Honolulu, Hawaii and transfer from Taft College in Taft, California.  A 5’7” setter, Adsuara earned 2nd Team CVC, American River All-Tournament Team honors and named team most valuable player in 2007.  “Krysten adds another dimension to our game as a setter,” says Smith.  “She runs the court well and can do it offensively and defensively.  Her experience and athleticism will enable us to run our fast tempo offense.  Getting acclimated to our offense and surroundings will be her first priority.”

Another transfer to the Lady Railsplitter program is 5’11” middle blocker Kodi Cartwright of Layton, Utah.  While playing for Laramie County Community College, Cartwright earned All-Conference, Region XI All-Region and earned All Region Tournament honors.  “Kodi is a quick middle that we have been lacking,” says Smith.  “She is a versatile hitter that uses her quickness to be a force at the net.  Kodi can attack from anywhere on the court and that will make her a big weapon for us.  The competition with our middles will be exciting this season.”

Coming to Lincoln Memorial University from the high school ranks is 5’8” outside hitter Candace Richardson of Houston, Texas.  In 2007, Richardson earned 2nd Team All-District, team most improved player and Academic All-District at Clear Lake High School.  Her team was District 24 5A Champions and Area Champions.  “Candace is a solid outside hitter that brings energy and determination to go along with great ball control,” said Smith.  “She is strong and has great leaping ability, not to mention a personality that will fit in well with the other team members.  The depth we have on the outside should make for great competition this season.”

Adsuara will major in Kinesiology at Lincoln Memorial University, while Richardson will pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine.  Cartwright has not yet decided what degree she will pursue while attending LMU.

Last season the LMU women finished the year with a 20-15 overall record and lost two seniors to graduation.  Adsuara, Cartwright and Richardson will join 12 returning players to pursue Lincoln Memorial University’s next opportunity at a South Atlantic Conference Championship title when the season opens in late August.
