OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 23, 2005 LMU Volleyball Team Gets Road Split to Keep GSC Tourney Hopes Alive VALDOSTA, GA – Following Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the University of West Florida in Pensacola, the Lady Railsplitters bounced back Sunday to defeat Valdosta State University 3-2 on their home floor to push their record to 20-10 overall and 5-5 in Gulf South Conference play. After winning games one and two on Saturday against the Lady Argonauts, only to see the match slip away, LMU wasn’t about to let that happen again in Sunday’s final regular season meeting with Valdosta State. The Lady Railsplitters battled hard in the first game but pulled up on the short end of the stick, losing 29-31 to trail one game to none. However, in Sunday’s second game with VSU, the Lady Railsplitters evened the score with a 30-21 pounding of the Lady Blazers. With game three again came disappointment. The Lady Blazers showed they could give as well as take by handing the LMU women a 22-30 loss to take a two to one lead going into game-four. That is where the celebration ended however for Valdosta State. LMU came away with a narrow 30-28 win in the forth game, and then ran off a 15-9 victory in game-five to slam the door in the Lady Blazers face. The LMU win didn’t come without adverse conditions on Sunday. Senior outside hitter Kirsten Atkinson (Sweeny, TX) didn’t make the trip this weekend due to an illness that kept her sidelined. Atkinson is expected to be back in the Lady Railsplitter lineup when the LMU women play host to nationally ranked North Alabama on Friday in the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium. Friday’s match is set to get underway at 6:00 p.m. -LMU- For additional
