LMU Volleyball Wins Three of Four at Coca Cola Classic

HARROGATE – The Lincoln Memorial University volleyball team traveled to Montevallo, Alabama over the weekend for the Coca Cola Classic Volleyball Tournament host by the University of Montevallo.

LMU got the weekend started with a split, losing a match to Arkansas Tech University (1-3), and defeating Albany State University (3-0) on Friday afternoon.  The Lady Railsplitters were upended by the Suns 24-30 in game one, but won game two 30-26, while losing games three and four 26-30 and 25-30.

Against Albany State, the LMU women looked impressive, winning 30-17, 30-18 and 30-13 to complete the first days play at one and one with Saturday’s regional games against Ouachita Baptist University and Fort Valley State University.

In Saturday’s final round action of the tournament, despite a hard fought battle by Ouachita Baptist, again the Lady Railsplitters prevailed, winning in five games.  LMU lost the first game of the match, 19-30, but bounced back to even the match at two games apiece with a 30-28 win in the second game.

The Lady Tigers stepped up play in game three by handing LMU a 21-30 loss however, the win turned out to be their last as the Lady Railsplitters captured a 30-22 win and a 15-9 win in games four and five.

The final match of the weekend was against NCAA South Region opponent Fort Valley State University.  In that match the Lady Railsplitters rolled over FVSU in straight games, winning 30-17, 30-19, and 30-17 to improve to 15-6 one the year.

This week the Lincoln Memorial women travel to Frankfort, Kentucky for a date with the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State University.  The match will be the second time the two teams have met this season, the first being in the LMU Invitational Tournament when the Lady Railsplitters came away with a 3-0 win.  Wednesday’s match gets underway at 2:00 p.m. on the KSU campus.
