LMU Volleyball Undefeated Following Invitational

HARROGATE – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter volleyball team remained undefeated Saturday afternoon by knocking off University of the Cumberlands 3-0 and Kentucky State University 3-0.

In the final day of the LMU Invitational Volleyball Tournament, the Lady Railsplitters got the afternoon started by defeating the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands 30-35, 30-27 and 30-19 to move to 3-0 on the year.

Senior outside hitter Kirsten Atkinson (Sweeny, TX) shined for LMU offensively as she recorded a team-high 10 kills for the match.  Teammate Allison Holstein (Brownsburg, IN) ran the offense, logging a season-high 31 assists en route to the win.

Defense may have proved to be the deciding factor in the win over the Patriots.  Three LMU players each contributed 11 digs including Holstein, junior Heidi Dreiling (Augusta, KS) and senior defensive specialist Courtney Marton (Springfield, OH).

In the final match of the invitational, despite a brief power outage late in the match, the LMU women rolled over Kentucky State University to pick up their first region win of the year by winning in straight games 30-15, 30-15 and 30-27.

Again Atkinson led the Lady Splitters with 10 kills, while Holstein topped her performance earlier in the day by recording 32 assists.  From a defensive standpoint, Marton led by example by contributing 14 digs as the only Lady Railsplitter to reach double figures in the category.

Now 4-0 on the year, the LMU women will raise the bar this Thursday evening when they play host to the Norse of Northern Kentucky University at home in the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium.  The match will get underway at 6:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
