OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release August 27, 2005 Lady Railsplitters Kick off 2005 Season with a Record of 2-0 HARROGATE – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter volleyball team came out swinging on the opening day of the 2005 season. The LMU women rolled over Montreat College and Glenville State College 3-0 in first round action of the LMU Invitational Volleyball Tournament to improve to 2-0 on the year. The Lady Railsplitter began the day in the opening match of the tournament by pounding Montreat College 30-15, 30-16 and 30-16 to move to 1-0 on the year. Senior Allison Holstein (Brownsburg, Indiana) led the way offensively with 27 assists, while junior Heidi Dreiling (Augusta, Kansas) and freshman Caitlin Hankins (Mesquite, Texas) each added eight kills. Defensively the Lady Railsplitters were led by junior Blythe McCulley (Springfield, Illinois) who recorded 10 digs and was the only LMU player to hit double figures in the category. In the Lady Railsplitters' second match, again it was LMU rolling to a 3-0 win, this time over Glenville State College. The Lincoln Memorial women dropped Glenville State 30-15, 30-9 and 30-13 to advance into the second day of the tournament undefeated at 2-0 overall. Again, it was Allison Holstein setting the pace of the offense for the Lady Railsplitters with 29 assists, while senior Kirsten Atkinson (Sweeny, Texas) contributed nine kills in LMU’s cause. Defensively, the Lady Splitters seemed relentless at times, with Blythe McCulley posting 13 digs, and senior Courtney Marton (Springfield, Ohio) logging 10. LMU will take on Cumberland College at noon in Saturday’s opening match of the day, and will play again at 6:00 p.m. in the final match of the tournament against NCAA Division II Kentucky State University.
