Henn & Oliveira Named LMU Female Athletes Of The Year

HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University softball infielder/pitcher Sara Henn (Kettering, OH) and women’s soccer forward Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil) have been named LMU Co-Female Athletes of the Year by head coaches throughout the University’s athletics department.

Henn, a 5’7” sophomore, led the conference in hitting this year with a .487 batting average, totaling 74 hits, 21 doubles, 13 homeruns and 57 runs batted in.  For her efforts, Henn received SAC Player of the Week honors once this season, First Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors, and South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year.  Tuesday night’s team MVP award and LMU Female Athlete of the Year award may not be the last accolades Henn receives this season.  Henn is currently a candidate for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Team, as well as NFCA and Daktronics Division II All-American awards which will be announced in the weeks to come.

Oliveira, a four-year starter for the Lady Railsplitter soccer team, virtually rewrote the LMU women’s soccer record book in four seasons wearing the LMU blue and gray.  During the 2007 fall season, Oliveira led the Lady Railsplitters to a 15-5-1 record, while tallying 28 goals, 11 assists and 67 total points.  Oliveira’s season totals earned her SAC Player of the Week honors twice, First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, SAC Player of the Year, First Team Daktronics All-Southeast Region, Daktronics Southeast Region Player of the Year and Daktronics First Team All-American.

While Oliveira graduated back in December, her legacy to the LMU soccer program will be felt for years to come.  As for Henn, she will return next year as a junior to lead a very talented group of Lady Railsplitter softball players in Lincoln Memorial University next quest for a South Atlantic Conference Championship.
