LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release April 18, 2008 Catawba comes From Behind In Seventh Inning To End LMU's Tournament Hopes NEWBERRY, SC - The sixth-seeded Catawba College softball team used a seventh inning comeback to eliminate fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial University, 3-2, in the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Friday. Catawba (26-24) was shutout for the first six innings of the game in large part to stellar catches at the fence by the LMU outfield. Lincoln Memorial (32-16) forced the Lady Indians to strand 10 runners on base in the game, including three when Alicia MacIntyre made an astounding catch while crashing through the left field fence, robbing Allie Marshall of a grand slam in the fifth. LMU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs with two outs. Conference Player of the Year Sara Henn drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alisa Burk drew a walk and both runners were driven in on a single by catcher Devin Sponseller. Catawba got on the board in the top of the seventh. Cassie Markham reached with a one-out single and reached third on a Kathryn Geouge double. Jacqueline White grounded out to plate Markham. Marshall drew a walk and Ryan Baker's single to left center plated Geouge to tie the game at 2-all. Sarah Van Buskirk hit a bloop single to right field to plate Marshall and give Catawba the 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, LMU led off with a single from Ashley Knight, who made it to third with two outs.
