Lady Railsplitter Softball Defeats Mars Hill In First Round Of Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament

NEWBERRY, SC – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team came from behind to defeat Mars Hill College 3-2 in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament on Thursday morning in Newberry, South Carolina.

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, Lady Railsplitter Jessica Locker (Tipp City, OH) put Lincoln Memorial on the scoreboard with a solo homerun over the left centerfield fence in the bottom of the third inning.  The Lady Railsplitters dealt the final blows to the Lions in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI singles by sophomore Sara Henn (Kettering, OH) and senior Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) with the bases loaded.

Lady Railsplitter pitcher Jessica Locker picked up the win to improve to 12-3 on the season.  Locker went the full seven innings, giving up five hits, two runs and two earned runs with one walk and six strikeouts.

The Lady Railsplitters are now 32-14 on the year and will play the winner of the Tusculum College verses Carson-Newman College match-up that is to be held later today.  The second round of the tournament in the winner’s bracket will be played Friday morning at 11:45. in Newberry, South Carolina.
