LMU Softball Ready For First South Atlantic Conference Tournament

HARROGATE, TN – After completing the season with a 31-14 overall record and a 7-7 conference mark, Dan Burns and his Lincoln Memorial University softball team will depart Wednesday for Newberry, South Carolina and the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament.

The Lady Railsplitters will enter the tournament as the SAC’s No. 4 seed and are poised to square off against the Lions of Mars Hill College who earned the No. 5 seed in this year’s tournament.  The last time LMU and Mars Hill met in softball, the two teams split with Mars Hill taking a 9-2 victory over the Lady Railsplitters in the first game and LMU rolling up a 7-2 win in the second game.

Including the Lady Railsplitters' last game with Mars Hill, the Lincoln Memorial women have won five of their last seven outings, while Mars Hill has been on a down hill slide, winning only two of their last seven games.  We are excited about playing in this years SAC Softball Tournament, said LMU Coach Head Coach Dan Burns.  Mars Hill is a very good team and will have to be on our “A-game” to beat them on Thursday.  We have beaten every team in the SAC at least once this year with the exception of Lenoir-Rhyne and we were in that game to the very end.  If we are going to win the championship, we are going to have to be focused.”

If the LMU women win their first round against Mars Hill on Thursday, they would play the winner of the Tusculum verses Carson-Newman game on Friday at 11:45 a.m.  Should they lose their first round against the Lions, LMU would play the loser of the Tusculum verses Carson-Newman game at 11:45 Friday morning.  The 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship is Sunday is Sunday in Newberry, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m.
