Lady Railsplitters & Indians Split Conference Double Header

HARROGATE, TN – The Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University and the Lady Indians of Newberry College split a critical South Atlantic Conference double header on Sunday afternoon on LMU’s Dorothy Neely Field.

Newberry, now in 6th place of the South Atlantic Conference race, took the first game 8-5 by generating eight runs on 10 hits while committing two errors in the field.  Lincoln Memorial, the 5th ranked team in the league, bounced back to take game two 9-6 on 12 hits for nine runs to remain in the middle of the South Atlantic Conference race.

With a little more then a week to go before the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament gets underway in Newberry, South Carolina, both the Lady Railsplitters and the Lady Indians will be scrambling in their last remaining conference games to capture as many victories as possible with the hope of securing a better seed in the tournament.

The Lady Railsplitters are now 28-13 overall and 6-6 in league play, while Newberry is now 19-17 on the year and 3-4 in the South Atlantic Conference.  This Wednesday the Lady Railsplitters host SAC opponent Catawba College at 2:00 p.m. before rounding out the regular season against non-conference opponent Union College on Thursday at home.  Newberry will have to run the gauntlet of Catawba on Monday at home, Wingate University on the road Wednesday, Carson-Newman at home next Saturday, and then St. Andrews next Sunday on the road.
