Lady Railsplitters Take The Bite Out Of Cobras

BRISTOL, VA – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team improved to 19-6 Wednesday afternoon with a double header win over the Cobras of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia.

Lincoln Memorial took the first game in a tight 2-1 decision in which the Lady Railsplitters generated nine hits over eight innings including doubles by senior Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) and Mira McPeek (Westerville, OH).  LMU sophomore Sara Henn (Kettering, OH) was also three-for-four at the plate with one RBI.

Henn also picked up the victory in Wednesday’s first game.  Henn pitched the full seven innings, giving up six hits, one run and no earned runs with one walk four strikeouts.  The sophomore hurler improves to 5-1 on the season with the win.

In the second game, LMU and VI unleashed the bats as the two teams combined for 25 hits in the 13-7 win by Lincoln Memorial.  LMU pounded out 13 hits and committed only two errors en route to their nineteenth win of the season.

Henn, who moved to third base for the second game, led the Lady Railsplitters at the plate again.  The multi-talented sophomore was a perfect four-for-four at the plate with four RBI while hitting a double and her third homerun of the season.  LMU’s Jackie Adams (Columbus, OH) added a triple, while Mira McPeek had a double.

The second victory of the day went to McPeek who improves to 1-0 on the season.  The freshman pitched 4.1 innings of work, giving up 11 hits, seven runs and five earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  In the fifth inning, the Lady Railsplitter’s Amanda Wampler (Powell, TN) enter the game and pitched the final 2.2 innings allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and two strikeouts.

Now 19-6 overall, the Lady Railsplitters are set to begin South Atlantic Conference play this weekend when they travel to Hickory, North Carolina to take on the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College.  The Lady Railsplitters and the Bears will play a double-header Saturday that is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. on the LRC campus.
