Lincoln Memorial Sweeps Anderson In Softball

ANDERSON, SC – Lincoln Memorial scored the winning run in the second game on four straight walks in the sixth inning and went to a 3-2 victory over Anderson and a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Smethers Field.

The Lady Railsplitters (2-0) survived a wild back-and-forth first game to post a 9-7 victory over Anderson (0-2).

In the first game, Lincoln Memorial jumped on top 3-0 in the first on a bases loaded walk and a two-run double by Mira McPeek.

Anderson threatened in the bottom of the first, but a ground out left the bases loaded.

Anderson cut the Lincoln Memorial lead to 3-1 in the third on an RBI single by Lora Daniel.

The Lady Trojans took a 5-3 lead in the fourth on a grand slam home run by Kayla Thrasher.

The Lady Railsplitters moved back in front 8-5 in the fifth on an outfield error that scored one run, a three-run homer by Alicia MacIntyre, and an RBI double by Sara Henn.

Trailing 9-5, Anderson put two runs on the board in sixth on an RBI single by Thrasher and a run-scoring ground out by Kasey King.

Lincoln Memorial finished the first game with 11 hits to Anderson’s eight.

In the second game. Lincoln Memorial opened the scoring in the first on an RBI single by Henn, but Anderson tied the game at 1 in the second on a run-scoring single by King.

Anderson took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Daniel. Lincoln Memorial tied the game at 2 in the fifth on a double by MacIntyre and two ground outs.

After recording one out in the sixth, Anderson starter and loser Alex Waldroup walked four straight batters to give the Lady Railsplitters a 3-2 lead.

King led off the Anderson seventh with a double, but the Lady Trojans could not push the tying run across.

Lincoln Memorial’s Jessica Locker allowed seven hits and struck out nine to earn the victory in the second game.

Both teams had seven hits in the second game. MacIntyre had two hits for LMU, while King had two hits for Anderson.
