Lady Railsplitters De-Fang Lady Cobras

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team picked up two more wins Friday evening by run-ruling Virginia Intermont College in the first game of a double-header 10-2 and shutting out the Lady Cobras in the second game 2-0.

Kara Faidley (Bristol, TN) led the Lady Railsplitter charge in LMU’s 10-2 win over Virginia Intermont Friday evening.  Faidley was two-for-three at the plate in the first game with three runs batted in and hit her first homerun of the season to help the Lady Railsplitter cause.

Faidley received help from teammates Jessica Locker (Tipp City, OH) and Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN).  Locker was a perfect two-for-two at the plate while Stewart finished the afternoon two-for-three with two RBI and also stepped in to pitch in the second inning, eventually getting the win to improve to 1-3 on the year.  Stewart pitched five innings of work, allowing no damage with four strikeouts to notch her first win of the year.

In game two, runs proved to be a little harder to come by, but a freshman and a senior stepped up to lead the Lady Railsplitters.  Third baseman Sarah Henn (Kettering, OH) led LMU at the plate by going two-for-three in the game, hitting her 13th homerun of the year.  Senior Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) had the other RBI on a double she hit in the fourth inning.

In the circle, freshman Jessica Locker was nothing shy of dominating.  Locker went the full seven innings of work, allowing only two hits, no runs, one walk and recorded six strikeouts while improving her personal record to 5-1 on the year.

Now 32-17-1 overall, the Lady Railsplitters are on track to break the Lincoln Memorial University softball record for most wins in a season.  LMU still has home double-headers with Brevard, Tusculum and King, while their only remaining road series will also be with Brevard.  If they can win six of their remaining eight games, the 2007 Lady Splitters will surpass the record of 37 wins set by two different LMU softball teams of the past.  The Lady Splitters next home double-header is set for April 14 against Tusculum College.
