LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release February 9, 2007 Lady Railsplitters Drop Two At Anderson To Open Season ANDERSON, SC - The Lincoln Memorial University softball team dropped a double-header to Anderson University on Friday afternoon in the 2007 season opener for the Lady Railsplitters. LMU took a 9-1 lead in the first game, with Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, TN) Sara Henn (Kettering, OH) and Alisa Burke (Blaine, WA) all going out of the yard.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the game seemed to fall apart for Lincoln Memorial University. An error and two home runs by Anderson were the beginning of the end for the Lady Railsplitters. LMU pitcher Brittney Walker gave up five runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth before giving way to teammate Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) who gave up the final two runs of the game.
Walker and Henn were both two for four at the plate with Walker recording thee RBI and Henn two. Burke also had two runs batted in on during the first game of the day.
Walker’s first effort of the year allowed Anderson seven hits, nine runs, five earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. While the majority of the damage was given up by Walker, it was Stewart that got the loss by giving up the final two runs in only one inning pitched. Stewart’s line included three hits, two runs and two earned runs with one strikeout.
In the second game of the afternoon, the LMU bats that were so hot in the game-one went silent as Cassey Schutte (Springfield, OH) was responsible for the only run of the game with a solo homerun in the fifth inning. Schutte’s blast was the only hit of the game for Lincoln Memorial.
LMU’s Jessica Stewart also got credit for the loss in game two. Stewart pitched five innings, giving up five hits, three runs and two earned runs, while allowing no walks and recording seven strikeouts. Jessica Locker (Tipp City, OH) pitched the final inning giving up no further damage.
