LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release October 19, 2007 LMU Softball Team Raises Money For Breast Cancer Awareness HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team recently used its skills as a tool to enlighten the softball fans and the general public of the concerns of breast cancer. On Saturday October 13 the Lady Railsplitters played special game against an area opponent as part of Lincoln Memorial University’s annual Homecoming celebrations. Both the Lady Railsplitters and their opponent took the field wearing special pink t-shirts honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Lady Railsplitters sold the same shirts to the public for $10.00 each and accepted donations for the cause. All proceeds then went to the Susan G. Komen “For The Cure,” founded by Nancy Brinker in 1982 after her sister Susan G. Komen, lost her battle with breast cancer. With the help of Saturday’s games, the Lady Splitters were able to raise $230.00 for the cause. Saturday’s event is one of several public service tasks the Lady Railsplitter softball team has undertaken throughout the fall semester. Earlier in the school year, the Lady Splitters gathered nearly $300.00 in change for the “Relay for Life” cause that is to promote cancer awareness. LMU Head Coach Dan Burns and the Lady Railsplitters begin the 2008 spring schedule in February in pursuit of their first South Atlantic Conference title. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
