LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release May 10, 2006 Walker Makes First Team All-GSC For Third Year
Late Tuesday evening, the Gulf South Conference office in Birmingham, Alabama announced that Walker had been named First Team All-GSC for the third consecutive year by the head coaches from the Eastern Division of the conference. The announcement came as no surprise to Lincoln Memorial athletics personnel who have witnessed Walker’s assault of the Lady Railsplitter record books over the past three seasons. This year the 5’7” pitcher/outfielder led the Lady Railsplitters in hitting percentage (.330), while crossing the plate 44 times on 63 hits, with 18 doubles, 6 triples, 12 homeruns and 43 RBI. Her efforts at the plate this season also moved her into 6th place in the Lady Railsplitter record book in career hitting percentage (.356), 3rd in career slugging percentage (.624),5th in career on base percentage (.414), 5th in career stolen base percentage (.810), 2nd in most career runs scored (126), 3rd in most career hits (198), 2nd in career doubles (51), tied for second in career triples (16) and 5th in career homeruns (22). Walker also ranks 5th in career runs batted in (98), 5th in career stolen bases (34). Walker’s talents at the plate are equaled only by her efforts in the circle. The three-year letter winner finished third in the conference in wins this season with a record of 21-9, while finishing second in the GSC Eastern Division to the University of Alabama-Huntsville’s Sage Woodham who turned in a record of 23-5. The Lady Railsplitter ace now ranks 6th all-time at LMU in lowest ERA (2.43), 1st in strikeouts per game (6.23) and 4th in wins (61). The next record that will most likely fall to walker is the LMU career strikeout record. Walker currently stands at 453 career strikeouts, only four behind former all-conference and all-region Lady Railsplitter Heidi Herber who holds the record with 457. With a of college eligibility remaining, the sky seems to be the limit for Walker, as she will help the Lady Railsplitters make the transition from the Gulf South Conference to their new home in the South Atlantic Conference. LMU officially becomes a member of the SAC June 1, 2006. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
