LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Office of Sports Information Sports Release April 23, 2006 LMU & UAH Split Final Two Games of the Series HARROGATE, TN – After losing the first two games to the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday 12-1 and 8-2 and the first game on Sunday 8-0, the LMU women bounced back in game four to take a 9-7 win over the Lady Chargers to improve to 33-27 on the year. With GSC Tournament hopes already gone for the Lincoln Memorial women, this weekend’s series with UAH and next weekend’s season finale against West Alabama is for pride and to send seniors Danielle Sowders (Knoxville, TN) and Kristen Hutchison (Benicia, CA) out on a winning note. Sunday’s first game only went six innings with the Lady Railsplitters getting run-ruled by the Lady Chargers 8-0. Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) was ruffed up in that outing, giving up 15 hits, eight runs and eight earned runs, while walking one batter and striking out two. LMU on the other hand put together only five hits for the game with Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, TN) leading the way by going two for three at the plate. Sowders, Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) and Amanda Wampler (Powell, TN) had the other three hits for Lincoln Memorial. Sunday afternoon’s second game proved to be a different story however, as the Lady Splitters hammered out 12 hits in the final game. Walker, Sowders, Gina Grace (Placerville, CA) and Cassey Schutte (Springfield, OH) were all two for three at the plate to help the LMU cause. Walker, Sowders and Schutte all went out of the yard, while sophomore Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA), who was only 1-3 at the plate, was responsible for the most runs batted in with three. LMU’s Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) got the start and pitched 3.1 innings of work, allowing six hits, five runs and five earned runs, with two walks and two strikeouts, before giving way to Wampler. Wampler pitched the final 3.2 innings to capture the win by allowing five hits, two runs and two earned runs, with one walk and one strikeout to pick up her first victory of the season. The Lady Railsplitters now have the week to prepare for their final series of the year against West Alabama next Saturday and Sunday. For seniors Danielle Sowders and Kristen Hutchison, it will be the final time they will play for Lincoln Memorial University. The series gets underway Saturday at 4:00 p.m. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, Head Coach: Dan Burns Phone: (423) 869-6242 |
