LMU Softball Dominates Catawba Tournament

SALISBURY, NC – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitter softball team was nothing shy of dominating this weekend at the Catawba College Tournament in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The Lady Railsplitters cruised through the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record allowing only two runs scored against them the entire weekend.  LMU started the weekend off with a 6-0 shutout of Mount Olive College and then back the victory with a 5-0 shutout of Limestone College.  The Lady Railsplitters ended the first day’s play with a 3-1 victory over host team and future South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College.

In day two of the tournament, Lincoln Memorial again displayed it’s dominance over the field by knocking off Pfeiffer University 8-1 and then recorded their third shutout of the weekend by blanking East Stroudsburg College 3-0 to finish with a perfect record for the weekend.

Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) added three wins to her overall record this weekend, while sophomore hurler Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) notched two.  At the plate, junior Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) clocked her sixth homerun of the year in the opening game against Mount Olive, while freshman Danielle Cooper (Concord, NH) hit her first collegiate homerun when she recorded a grand slam against Pfeiffer in the fourth game of the tournament.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Railsplitters now 13-5 overall will take on non-conference opponent Tusculum College in a double-header that is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. on the Dorothy Neely Field on the LMU campus.  The Lady Railsplitter’s two-game set with Alderson-Broaddus on Wednesday at home will be the last home series until March 25th and 25th when they play their first home GSC series of the year against Valdosta State University.
