LMU Softball Posts Back to Back Shutouts

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team bounced back Saturday afternoon from this week’s double-header loss to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga with a two game sweep of visiting Brevard College.  The Lady Railsplitters recorded consecutive shutouts of Brevard (5-0, 5-0) to move to 8-5 on the year.

LMU’s Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) picked up the win in the first game of the series to improve her personal mark to 4-2 this season.  Walker pitched the full seven innings, allowing five hits and no runs with one walk and five strikeouts.

Hitting wise, the Lady Railsplitter bats could be heard loudly as LMU had 12 hits in the game.  Leadoff hitter Gina Grace (Placerville, CA) was three for four, while junior Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) came back from an ankle injury sustained in last weekend’s West Georgia Tournament to go two for two at the plate with two doubles and four runs batted in.

In the second game of the afternoon, sophomore Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) got the win, pitching six of the seven innings before giving way to teammate Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) to close the door.  Stewart allowed Brevard only three hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts.

At the plate senior Kristin Hutchison (Benicia, CA) finished two for three with two RBI, while teammate Brittney Walker was two for four with one run batted in.  Sophomore Alisa Burk (Blaine, WA) and Danielle Cooper (Concord, NH) were responsible for LMU’s other two RBI.

The Lady Railsplitters will now take several days to prepare for next weekend’s Catawba College Tournament to be held in Salisbury, North Carolina.  The tournament will feature several teams that LMU will face next season when they become a member of the South Atlantic Conference.
