OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 24, 2006 Division I Lady Mocs Sweep Lady Railsplitters CHATTANOOGA, TN – Playing against NCAA Division I University of Tennessee- Chattanooga Thursday afternoon, the Lady Railsplitters made a strong showing in the first game of the day, losing 3-2 in the final inning, and then came unglued in the afternoon’s second game to lose 10-0 in five innings of play. LMU fell behind early in the first game, giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Railsplitters battled back in the forth inning when junior Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) hit her fourth homerun of the year to tie the game at 2-2 with a shot over the right field fence. Following UTC’s first inning offense, Walker who made the start in game-one, combined with her teammates to hold the Lady Mocs in check until the bottom of the sixth inning when LMU relinquished a single run that eventually proved to be the fatal blow that gave UTC the 3-2 come-from-behind victory. Game-two turned out to be a nightmare for the Lady Railsplitters. The LMU bats were ice cold only generating three hits while the Lady Mocs gave sophomore Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) a rude introduction to the city of Chattanooga, recording eight hits and 10 runs. Stewart, who falls to 2-2 on the year, pitched four innings, giving up 8 hits, 10 runs and 5 earned runs, while walking two batters and striking out two. With Thursday’s losses, the Lady Railsplitters fall to 6-5 overall and play host to Brevard College this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the Dorothy Neely Field. The double-header with Brevard will be the Lady Splitters' last home series until March 7, when they host the Lady Pioneers of Tusculum College. -LMU-
