OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 17, 2006 First Day of West Georgia Tournament Is a Rough One for Lady Railsplitters CARROLLTON, GA – Several teams gave the Lincoln Memorial University softball team a rude awakening in the first day’s play of the West Georgia Invitational Tournament on Friday afternoon. LMU was defeated in each of the three games in which they played, losing to Nova Southeastern in the tournament opener 3-2, to Florida Southern in the day’s second game 8-0 and to the University of Indianapolis 3-2 in eight innings in Friday’s afternoon game. LMU pitchers Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN), Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) and Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) all suffered their first individual losses of the year. Also, Lady Railsplitter first baseman Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) went down early in the day with an ankle sprain and is questionable for the remainder of the tournament. The Lady Railsplitters will try to bounce back and get things going in the win column again on Saturday when they play their final two games of the weekend against Clark-Atlanta and Columbus State. If Evans isn’t able to suit up on Saturday, the LMU women will be playing without their top homerun hitter and only true first baseman.
