OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 15, 2006 Lady Railsplitter Bats Blaze Against Union HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University softball team put together two more wins in a double-header against Union College at home on the Dorothy Neely Field. Playing in only their second series of the year, the Lady Railsplitters rolled over Union 13-0 in both games to move to 4-0 heading into Thursday’s home double-header against Mars Hill College. LMU junior Brittney Walker (Chattanooga, TN) got the win in the first game, moving to 2-0 on the year. Walker gave a dominating performance, going four innings, while giving up only one hit, no runs, no walks and striking out 11. Newcomer Kelly Click (Ashland, OH) closed the door in the fifth inning by allowing no runs, no hits and recording one strikeout. At the plate, Walker was two for two in the game with two runs scored and two RBI, while teammate Tiffany Evans (Bowling Green, KY) was one for two and also had two runs batted in. Both Walker and Evans went out of the yard, Walker picking up her first home run of the year and Evans notching her second. In the second game of the evening, Click came back to make her first start of the year and captured her first win as a Lady Railsplitter to move to 1-0. Click went two innings of work, allowing one walk and logging one strikeout before teammate Jessica Stewart (Loudon, TN) came in for the final three innings. Stewart also shut down the Lady Bulldogs allowing one walk and recording one strikeout. As in the first game, again it was the tandem of Walker and Evans that set the tone for the Lady Railsplitters. Evans had the strongest showing, going three for three with five RBI and another homerun. Walker was three for four at the dish, also recording five RBI and a homerun. Sophomore Amanda Wampler (Powell, TN) finished the game two for three at the plate, as did teammate Danielle Cooper (Concord, NH). Wampler was responsible for two RBI. The LMU women will now take on Mars Hill College Thursday in their final double-header before traveling this weekend to Carrollton, Georgia for the University of West Georgia Tournament. The weekend should be an excellent benchmark to let the Lady Railsplitters know where they stand with the NCAA South Region’s best competition.Lincoln Memorial 13, Union (Ky) 0 (Feb 15, 2006 at Harrogate, TN) (Game 1) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Union (Ky).......... 000 00 - 0 1 4 (0-1) Lincoln Memorial.... 061 6X - 13 9 0 (3-0) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pitchers: Union (Ky) - Monica Valdez.
