Walker Named Preseason All-Gulf South Conference

HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University softball junior Brittney Walker has been named to the All-Gulf South Conference Preseason squad released yesterday by conference office in Birmingham, Alabama.

A two-year All-GSC performer, Walker returns after leading the Lady Railsplitters to a 34-25 season last year while leading the team with a .383 batting average.  As a sophomore, Walker also recorded a team-best 64 hits, 12 doubles, 9 triples, 3 homeruns and 23 RBI along with a .605 slugging percentage and a .455 on base percentage.  As a pitcher, Walker had a 15-5 record that included 131.2 innings pitched, along with 121 strikeouts.

Walker will spearhead a Lady Railsplitter attack that also included eight additional returning players from last year’s squad and three newcomers that should give the Lincoln Memorial women a solid foundation to compete in this year’s field of GSC opponents.

This weekend the Lady Railsplitters open the 2006 season against Virginia Intermont College at home on the Dorothy Neely Field at 1:00 p.m.  The Lady Railsplitters and the Cobras are scheduled for double-header that is free to the public.
